The United Methodist Men (UMM) is an organization which is open to all men of the local church.  It is a fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually, and to seek to do His will daily.

We meet at 6:30 pm on the last Tuesday of each month, except June, July, and August (summer break) and December.  In December we sponsor a church-wide Christmas Breakfast.  All meetings begin with a fellowship meal and include a special program and / or speaker.

Next regular meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, February 22, 2011.

Some of our ongoing projects include:

• The UMM of Bethany provides financial support for the Cub Scout Pack our church sponsors.
• Maintenance for our Esther Thompson Cottage (used for emergency transitional housing).
• A Love Offering for the Mattaponi Indian Healing eagle Clinic received at each of our meetings.
• Along with the BUMC Youth, UMM sponsors a church-wide Rummage Sale.  Another Rummage Sale will be scheduled in 2011.  The Rummage Sale and an occasional clam chowder luncheon are done as fundraisers.  All money raised is given away to various charities.
• UMM provides luncheon and other labor to support the BUMC bi-annual Bazaar.  The next Bazaar will be held November 2012.
• UMM conducts an annual spring clean-up and spruce-up of our church grounds.

  • Ladies Night - The next United Methodist Men's supper and meeting will be on February 23, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Warren Belvin Fellowship Hall, Bethany United Methodist Church.  Come joins us for a delightful evening as we recognize that special lady in our life with a wonderful meal and program.

  • Bethany Methodist Men and Youth Yard Sale
    On Saturday, June 13th, the United Methodist Men and the youth are sponsoring a yard sale. Hours will be 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We will have coffee, doughnuts, chips and soft drinks for sale in addition to the usual items. Every member is encouraged to donate clean, sellable items. The church will be open and workers will be on duty to accept your donated items between 5PM and 7PM Monday thru Thursday (8th-11th). Help will be available to transport large and/or heavy items to the church during these hours.   • United Methodist Men's Meeting - FATHER/SON/DAUGHTER
    Bethany United Methodist Men look forward to sharing a “Memorial Day Cookout”, prepared by Mike Andersen, with their son/daughter/friend on Tuesday May 26, 6:30 p.m.
    
    Bethany’s own Ed. Schultz will talk on the American Revolution and Historical Farming in Williamsburg. Don’t let this late reminder keep you away. There will be hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. - plenty for all. Join us for the last UMM meeting until September, you’re sure to have a great time.

  • United Methodist Men District Gathering of Men
  • A Gathering of Men will take place on April 4th at Bethany Church from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon.
  • Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. – for a charge of $5.00 per person.
  • Featured speaker will be Rev. Jim Lavender of Discovery UMC. Dr. Jim Lavender hails from the swamp country of Mississippi, star of Lil Abner, emcee for music celebrities, circus ringmaster, lion and tiger trainer, and now pastor of a dynamic and growing Methodist church for over 25 years! Rev. Lavender is becoming one of America’s beloved storytellers. His hilariously funny stories and heartwarming reflections of his life are inspiring for all!
  • Additional speakers will include Capt. Martin Shirilla, District Scouting Coordinator, Mary Haden from Heart Havens, James Glenn, who will speak about Prayer Advocacy, and Edgar Robinson who will speak about Building Brothers. Invite a friend and join us!

  • United Methodist Men's Meeting - The next United Methodist Men's supper and meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Warren Belvin Fellowship Hall  Speaker for the evening is Warren Deal, who will give a talk on "The Reenactment of the Battle of the Hook".

  • On March 29th Bethany UMM will sponsor a fundraiser clam chowder & vegetable beef soup luncheon immediately after the 11o’clock service. Please join us! A donation of $7.00 has been set for the meal.
• Saturday, October 4, 2008 & Sunday, October 5, 2008
  • Lay Speaking Training:  October 4-5, 2008, at Bellamy UMC.  The Basic Course is offered to "Local Church Lay Speakers," and the Advanced Course is offered to those who want to continue as or become a "Certified Lay Speaker."   Classes will be held Saturday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, 2:00-5:00 p.m.   The cost is $25.00 per class with lunch provided.  Please contact the District Office to make your reservation at 804-658-3686, or rappdistrict@vaumc.org

  • The District UMM will be having their "Fall Banquet" and election of District Officers for 2009-2010 on October 2, 2008, 6:00 p.m., Kilmarnock UMC.   The evening meal will be catered by Willabys, White Stone, at $12.00 per person.   Guest speaker will be John McKone, a former Air Force Pilot.  Please call Alan Harvey, 684-2790, or the church office to register to attend.  Registration must be in before September 25.

  • Men's Ministry Sunday at Bethany - The men of the church will be in charge of both the 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. services.

  • Sons and daughters are invited to join their fathers at the May meeting of the United Methodist Men.
  • The May meeting will be the final one until next Fall.
